And, This is Not All She Wrote

WiP: 2/2 Stocking.

Yes, that's right, still working on the stocking. Soooo close! I should be done by Sunday.

I'm really hoping to get an update for Etsy up this weekend. I'm going to go through all of the stock I currently have and freshen it up...And take new pictures for everything that I'm going to post. Keep an eye out for really good sales on some of these items, as I want to transition away from them into more of what I really enjoy (i.e. felting).

Other than that, I'm going to chill and knit on the stocking and then cast of my shawl.

Wish me luck!

Have an awesome evening, my dears.

Wedding Wednesday: 4/80, Save-the-Dates

Hello, my lovelies!

Quick update this week.

We're designing "Save-the-Date" postcards, which I think has been really fun. I'm just deciding on how to word the backs.

I don't know if I want a super playful "hey, we're going to tie the knot!" saying or if I want the other one that I like, which is "Once upon a time...Come help us celebrate out happily-ever-after!"

I'm definitely leaning towards the second, because I want a kind of fairy tale feeling to the whole day, although this would likely be the most obvious part of it, since the rest will be more subtle.

Otherwise, we actually met with and booked our photographer, and are in the process of getting our ceremony/reception venue booked! Super exciting. I can't wait to go do the tasting!! hehe

So that's where we're at. I'm going to talk to Dallas and get this figured out, and once I do, I'll let you all know about it, too!

And suddenly, I hear something about the shawl...Yes. That. I'll be casting on again this weekend and trying not freak out about how freaky it is how it's growing while I'm looking at the back of it, essentially.

What are your opinions on the save-the-date wordings? Let me know in the comments below! (Or just comment on how bad that rhyme is!)

One Stocking, Two Stocking...And Then Socks!

WIPs: 2/2 Stockings
FO: Stocking Body, need to do cuffs.

That's right! I'm almost done one custom order, so once that's complete, I'm going to work on my own pair of socks, hopefully.

My next couple of weeks will hopefully go like this:

- Finish stockings
-Work on prototype baby photo props
-Work on dinosaurs
-Start shawl
-Start Oatmeal Pullover
-Start a pair of socks
- Work on Secret Project
- Work on mittens for Dallas

What will likely happen:

- Finish stockings
     - Get them sent out.

- Start Shawl
- Work on Secret Project

- Start Oatmeal Pullover
- Work on Dinosaurs
- Work on mittens for Dallas.

I'll try to fit the other things in...haha

Since I'm on my lunch break, though, and I need to finish the stockings, I will bid you adieu for now!

I'll try to give you guys some "bonus" posts this weekend after I've had a chance to take some photos.

Take care, my dears!

I swear that there was a post here, but unfortunately, I lost all of the information. I will reconstruct this one at a later date.

Chat Chat Chat

WIPs: lacy doily, felted stocking.

I know, not much work done. :(

Work's been super swamped, and I've been busy each night this week.

Anyway...That's the update!

I have a relaxing weekend ahead, which I'm excited about, because I'm ready for some days off that I don't have much planned for.

Anyway. Over hump day. Onto the weekend!

Katie =^..^=

P.S. I'm venturing into sock knitting...Well, I'm turning the heel on the stockings over the next few days, at least. hehe

Wedding Wednesday 3/80: Pinterest Inspiration

Today, I will let my Pinterest board speak for itself, partly because I'm being super lazy, and partly because I've been super swamped at work.

Either way, my Pinterest Wedding board is a bit of a mess right now, mostly because it's where I'm pinning EVERYTHING that I think my interest me for decorations, favours, invites, etc.

I invite you to take a look at it...And while you're at it, feel free to check out my other boards!

Have a lovely evening, and happy pinning~!!

Dinosaur RAWR~!

WIPs: Felted Christmas stockings (custom order), lacy doily

Hello my dears,

Working away over here. I'm done with fairs until the fall (at least), so I'm focusing on some custom orders and then I have to move onto getting some new things up on Etsy. For example, felted plaid bags with Scottie dogs on them, anyone...?

This also includes the title of this post: dinosaurs! That's right, if you've been watching my Facebook page or Twitter, you may have noticed some pictures of a Triceratops. That's Trent. He's awesomely cute, and perfect for the little boy in your life!

I'm going to be adding more dinosaurs here in awhile, all individually named and in varying colours. Got a special request for a dinosaur or colours? Contact me, and I'll let you know the pricing!

As the WIP section of those post says, I'm working on felted Christmas stockings for an Etsy custom order, and also a lacy doily.

I tried and tried and tried (and tried...) to cast on my wedding shawl on Saturday...But it kept not working out. I think it was partly because this was the finest (and slipperiest) yarn I've worked with, but also super tiny cast on (6 stitches to knit in the round)! So, I decided that, instead of destroying my expensive silk, I would cast on some cheaper acrylic and test out another lace pattern that I want to make for my flower girl's basket. It's the "Tulipe" by Linda Browning. This knit up really fast; I did 29/31 rows on Sunday. The nupps got me, though! I didn't know you could knit into 7 stitches at once (and, granted, I couldn't a lot of the time). Those will take some time getting used to (if I work that part of the pattern in the end piece will be seen later). I just need to do the crochet bind-off tonight and block it, and then I'll post pictures, probably in next week's Tuesday post.

Anyway, I just need to do the bind off, and then I have a fairly pretty doily, an experiment on the pattern I want to use for the basket, AND I think I've figured out what was freaking me out on my shawl. haha

I'm using magic loop, and part of what was freaking me out was that half of the time the wrong side was facing me (when I was working the "bottom" as the cable with the other stitches was at the top). I couldn't tell if I had twisted my stitches, or if that was the way it was supposed to be. Having knit this doily, I now see that, at least for me, that's "natural," and the stitches all come out fine later on. haha

I think that, when I go back to my shawl, I'm also going to cast on the initial stitches on my teeny-tiny needles, join in the round, and shift up to my large needles for the second row. My biggest worry (now that I've figured out what is "natural" and what isn't for a lace shawl) is that I'm going to twist the stitches way down at the beginning...And not be able to tell that I did until I'm well through the first chart. Or something.

I can see lifelines becoming a very good friend of mine over the next few months!

Otherwise, keeping busy and out of trouble over here. Dallas will be home tomorrow, and we have a lazy weekend planned, which I'm super excited about! I'm really for some relaxation...And unstressed knitting time.

Question of the day:

What's the most difficult stitch you've worked so far?

Pretty Picks: Yarn Bowls

So, Dallas and I just got a new coffee table. And this new coffee table is large enough that I will be able to place a yarn bowl on it to display my current project (i.e. my wedding shawl, since it's going to be a project that stays at home due to the lace work).

This means that I've been looking at lots of yarn bowls, so I wanted to share just some of my favourites with you here!

Cat Yarn Bowl - Knitty Kitty - Made to Order

Yarn Bowl, knitting bowl, green, Lime green, Grass Green, seen in Knit Simple magazine

Yarn bowl JUMBO Extra Large Knitting Ceramic Yarn Bowl Organizer Winter White with twisted leaves

Stoneware Ceramic Pottery Knitting Yarn Bowl, Hand Carved

Ceramic Heart Yarn Bowl for a Large Skein

You guys have any other suggestions? Let me know in the comments!

Friday Queue Enhancement

Hello, my lovelies!

I can't believe that this is the second of the Queue Enhancement posts! The weeks sure do fly by quick!!

So, ready to have more patterns that make you squeal? Excellent!

By the way, if you aren't on Ravelry, got on over and sign up. Then you can add all of these patterns to your queue so that you have an idea of what you'll want to knit later (if you don't already). Also, it's a great community of knitters, crocheters, and spinners.

So, without further ado, here we go~!

So, one of the best things I've heard recently was suggestion by Diane of Knitabulls to actually knit this cat out of handspun. Which is exactly what I'm going to do. I have some gorgeous yarn from Dragonfly Dyewerx out of Drumheller that will be perfect. Once I find the time!

This one has been around for awhile, but I still love it. I definitely want to knit it in something soft as a casual shawl. Someday.

I love the book that these patterns came in; this is just one of my favourites because it's so fuzzy! I have this on my list to knit after dinosaurs.

Admittedly, I'm not a big crocheter. But this pattern is sooooo adorable!

A shawl, with a cat motif in the edge!? What more could you ask for??

How can you tell that I love most of what Tiny Owl Knits produces? I can't wait to knit this for myself...Or perhaps for a special little girl if I have one later on in life.

And finally, a pair of mittens. That are awesome. And complicated. But still on my list.

Hope these patterns help inspire you!! They are all gorgeous, and I can't wait to knit each of them.

Take care, and I'll blog at you all again soon! :D

Chat Chat Chat

WIPs: Pair of mittens to felt, Triceratops (almost there!), Troodon (also from Tina Barrett's book)

So, it's Thursday. I have certainly not accomplished what I set out to accomplish this week...But that's OK. It's been super busy. haha

I'm still stocking up for Sunday, which is a show I'm super excited for. I hope that it brings lots of traffic through for me. Even if it's not sales, traffic is always good!!

After this show, I'm settling in to work on custom orders and some bags for the summer...And at the absolute latest, I'm casting my wedding shawl on after the show on Sunday. I also have a custom order for Christmas stockings that I have to work on.

Other than that, just been busy at work, busy at knitting, and looking forward to the show!

Going to start going back to the gym (again) tonight. I need to get through all of my phases in the next couple of months so I can go buy my wedding shoes.

I've also decided that I will be going to look for dresses in July, so I want to be at least most of the way fit by that point. I've got six months until then. I think that I'll at least have slimmed down a bit at that point. Even if I'm not exactly where I will be the following year, it'll be better than right now.

Now I just need to find the motivation! And stop staying up so late to read or knit. haha

Anyway. Short and sweet today.

Have an awesome night!

Wedding Wednesday 2/80

Hello my Lovelies,

So this weekend was spent wedding planning with Dallas, which is always good. I like it when he's able to be involved, and particularly for the big decision that we made this week, he had to be involved. Now, that he is not always involved may sound a bit like a control thing on my part, but it's actually due to the fact that he's out of town literally half the time, so most of the planning is me at home looking at stuff and then showing him what I've found. haha

Anyway, this weekend was venue picking and the Bridal Fantasy show in Calgary.

We have chosen a venue (which I'm going to keep private, since this is going out into the public sphere) that is right on a valley overlooking the mountains, and because it's a ski chalet, it's going to not be used during the summer, which means it'll be quiet, private, and we don't have to worry about disturbing anyone. The place we're at is also has a campground and lodge right on site, with a whole bunch of things included, and it just all works out really well for us and our guests, I think.

So now we can make up Save the Dates, which I will share once I've gotten them printed, and I'll give you feedback on them.

Because we've chosen some of the major things of our wedding, we went to the Bridal Fantasy to find places to rent chair covers, and I was looking for wedding decoration ideas. It was small, but a good toe-dip for wedding shows. I'm going to make sure that I go to the other two big shows in Calgary.

Anyway, besides that, I'm casting on my wedding shawl tonight! Fingers crossed that it turns out all right!

Take care,

Katie =^..^=

Tuesday Chatter

WIP: Triceratops
FOs: Triceratops' parts

Busy, busy, busy, my dears.

This triceratops is taking a really long time! I didn't realize how big he was. Oh well. He'll be awesome once he's finished.

Don't forget that I'm going to be at Cardel Place this weekend! The information is on the postcard below:

So, still ramping up for that. Planning on casting on my wedding shawl/figuring out its schedule as soon as I finish working on this stuff...And then I have a pair of felted Christmas stockings to make!

Fun times. :)

And short chatter. hahaha

There'll be more tomorrow in the wedding post!

Please make sure to come visit at the fair!!

Queue Enhancer

All right, so part of this whole scheduling thing is that I'm going to be writing all of the "pre-determined" posts on a schedule so that they post automatically each week.

This means that my WIPs and FOs will only be really talked about in the chatter/accountability posts.

Anyway! The first of the faved/queued posts for this blog. These are in no particular order. I'll be sharing 5-7  per week. All pictures and patterns are copyright of their respective owners. I'm just giving their patterns some love and claim no rights to images posted here (Unless it's something I've knitted - you'll be able to tell).

Super cute dragon. I've been catching up on episodes from the last year of Knitabulls, and Diane just finished making him from her handspun! Soooooooo adorkable.

I saw Aimee of the Knitting in Circles podcast knit this for last year's Rhinebeck and loved it! I really want to make this for work so that I have something to keep me warm. I have the yarn and needles...Just trying to make the time.
This is my wedding shawl, so of course it's in my queue. Received the yarn on Wednesday and have the needles; I'm going to sit down and make a schedule for it. Yarn planned: Lace Silk by Handmaiden, Ruby Red Colourway.

These are almost beyond words. I love them. They are from the same creative mind as the Bee Keeper's Quilt, which I think is awesome. On my to-do list.

These are gorgeous. Definitely something to knit now that I know how to make mittens pretty proficiently! I found these when I was looking for FOs that used Freia Handpaint Yarns (also gorgeous)!

I'm really falling prey to pattern suggestions from Aimee over at Knitting in Circles. I saw this one and got inspired to make my own. It seems like it'll be a very easy first pullover pattern with raglan increasing for the shoulders. So here's hoping! I also have the yarn for this...Just looking for the time. (Updated: Finished to wear on February 20, 2013. Notes and modifications here: NekozukiYarns' Oatmeal Pullover.)

Anyway, I hope that these posts help to inspire you in your knitting pursuits! If you have not joined Ravelry and are a knitting, crocheter, spinner, or weaver, head on over and join!

Hope you all have a good night, and look for the next post on Monday!

Take care,

Katie =^..^=

Snowy Thursday; Some Awesomeness; Some Scheduling

WIPs: Triceratops, just cast on another iPhone case.
FOs: None

Yes indeed, it's snowy. As in, ridiculously snowy. Literally buckets of heavy, thick, snow we don't see until spring. I left work last night, and it was clear. I got home to discover my box from KnitPicks and another envelope of yarn, and went in for a shower, etc, and came out and it was snowing and gusty. Not bad.

~1.5 hours later, when Dallas and I left the airport, there had already been about 2 inches of snowfall. By the time I got up this morning, there had been another 4+ inches. It is snowy outside, and there's still more coming down. :( I don't like January. haha Yesterday when I left work, it was +3 (celsius) by the time Dallas got in, it was -5, and today it's -11.

Yeah, yeah. I don't want to bellyache about it much more. haha

But I am kind of glad it came through now, because that means that it's not on Saturday, when Dallas and I head out to look at venues!! The roads should have mostly cleared up by then. At least I have my fingers crossed that they have!

Yesterday as good because I not only received my KnitPicks order, but also my order from Colorsongyarn.com for my Handmaiden Silk Lace in Ruby Red...Lots of it. haha It came in at a lot more red than I thought (yes, I understand it's called Ruby Red, but from hat I looked at on the website, on Ravelry finished projects, and what I had seen in person, had been kind of a dark dusty rose/red). Anyway. It'll all be good. I have to figure out a schedule that'll work, because I want to finish it by July.

The KnitPicks order as also some yarn for a special order and some needles. Super happy with how quickly it came, too!

Now, for some scheduling.

I'm having some difficulty writing everyday. So I figured I would start doing theme days.

Hence born is the schedule:

Monday - Pretty Picks - Items I find that I think are really cool/pretty/useful. I don't end up being able to purchase a lot of hat I want, but I can certainly talk about things I think are cool.
Tuesday - Chatter - whatever I want
Wednesday - Wedding - progress on wedding stuff
Thursday - Chatter - same as Tuesday; this will also be the accountability post, where I show how much I've actually gotten finished during the week!
Friday - Patterns I Have Favourited on Ravelry

There may be extra posts on the weekends, but I don't want to plan those right no, since things have to happen on the weekend when Dallas is home.

So, let's see how this goes!

Anyway, out for the night. Look for the post tomorrow about favourited patterns~!

Take care,

Katie =^..^=

Happy 2013, all!

WIPs: Triceratops by Tina Barrett!
FOs: Present Thrummed Mittens, pair of women's mittens to be felted,  thumbless mittens to thrum, iPhone cases to felt

Belated Happy New Year!!

Well, that was a whirlwind Christmas season! haha Hence the lack of blogging. I apologize for the sparseness of it all.

But I had an awesome season, and I got spoilt, and then I spoilt myself with a couple things that I had had my eye on for awhile.

Dallas got me all of the uncut Japanese Sailor Moon, which is amazing. Want to watch a good anime? Make sure it's the English subbed uncut Sailor Moon.

And I got him a Nintendo-64, which lets him play a lot of the retro games he has, but doesn't have a console for (we already have the NES, so we have a pretty good start now).

Christmas was spent among family; Christmas Eve with Dallas's family and Christmas Day with mine.

Christmas Eve morning I ended making about six dozen cookies. It was crazy!

I used a shortbread recipe I got from Dallas's sister (from his mom), and then I used a fresh-ginger cookies recipe.

Other than that, been super busy. I'm stocking up for the Mommylicioush show in Calgary on January 20, so I'm going to cut this short and I'll talk to you folks all later!!

Katie =^..^=

P.S. I know it's Wednesday. I know I said I would talk about the wedding on Wednesday...But I have nothing to say right now. We go choose our venue this weekend, though, so I'll be able to share some details next week. <3
